Josias was die seun van Cornelis van der Westhuizen en Claudina Engelbrecht.

Josias trou 1799 met Johanna Wilhelmina Aggenbach, die dogter van Carl Aggenbach.

Carl Aggenbach (in GMR called Hagenbach. Nassau-Weilburg). Marburg is given as his birth place. He arrived at the Cape in 1763 as soldier. He became a burgher in 1769. His occupation was also listed as a tailor. He married 14 March 1773 Gesina BEUKES. She was baptised 21 Jul 1754 the seventh child of Hendrik Beukes and Christina du Plessis.
